Whoa.
The brilliance at last night’s (September 16, 2008) third social media gathering left heads throbbing here at the station. And coffee is not proving a salutary antidote. Any known cures for social media–induced hangovers?
For those who missed the proceedings, please read the sublime Limeduck’s recap. The ubiquitous Steve Garfield took a photograph (its off-kilter framing calls to mind the villians’ lair in the ’60s Batman series) posted here. And fashion criminal/genius Adam Zand … well … Adam Zand was Adam Zand, “Uttering” ad infinitum. And judging by all the busy little fingers, there was a whole lot of Tweeting going on.
And as our little meeting was well underway, the redoubtable C.C. Chapman could be heard on 90.9 as part of a Marketplace segment on Twitter. I’m convinced such synchronicity only confirms the gods were smiling upon us. Let the revolution begin!
All kidding aside, this was one of the most interesting and incisive sessions we’ve had. The presence of two on-air guys who listened instead of lecturing, asked questions instead of patronizing, certainly helped. Thank you, Steve Brown and David Boeri, for rubbing elbows with the plebs. What’s more, the latter’s epiphanic Web Two Oh revelations have spawned a Twitter account. Will let you know his handle once we know. (History in the making, folks: 90.9’s first on-air personality to “Tweet.”)
Now where do we go with all this? Not sure, but the ride has been too much fun to get off just yet. What I really am hoping for are some answers to this as well as generating some movement toward this.
I want to see some fresh faces at the next event. And based on some of your feedback, I am considering a set schedule. And to make it easier to find out about the wheres and what-fors, I am creating a page for those non-Tweeters (gasp!) among us to remain in touch.
Thank you all.
P.S. Andrea Mercado ended up with a salad as big as herself.
So thanks again folks, all of you.
